J&K: CRPF trooper hurt in grenade attack
Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar
March 11, 2009 23:13 IST

Terrorists struck in the heart of summer capital Srinagar [Images] on Wednesday afternoon, carrying out a powerful hand grenade explosion that injured a paramilitary trooper.

Police said terrorists tossed a grenade at a bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force in vicinity of the historic Hanuman [Images] temple on the banks of river Jhelum.

"The grenade exploded near the bunker, injuring a CRPF trooper.  He was taken to hospital for treatment," said a senior police officer.

He said, "The area was surrounded and searched."

The explosion caused disruption in the movement of traffic in the otherwise busy Maharaja Bazaar area.

No group has yet admitted responsibility for the attack.
