US Open 2001 'Sampras vs Agassi'
Agassi and Sampras each were making their ninth quarterfinals appearance in the US Open. Both were 7-1, with their only loss coming to Jim Courier.
The last meeting between Agassi and Sampras in a Grand Slam event was the semifinals of the 2000 Australian Open. Agassi won the match in five sets.
The last time two players 30 years or older played each other in the Open was 1984.
No. 2 seed Andre Agassi and No. 10 seed Pete Sampras in front of a roaring, sellout crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium - a 3 hour, 32 minute match won by Sampras in four sets, not only lived up to the hype, it surpassed it.
