Joel Parkinson of Australia scored a convincing win over Fabio Gouveia of Brazil and Ben Bourgeois of the USA in round one of the Mundial Coca-Cola de Surf at Saquarema, Brazil. The Mundial Coca-Cola de Surf is the tenth WCT event of 12 for the men's 2002 world tour schedule featuring US$250 000 in prize money, the top 45 surfers in the world and two wildcards.
