Mahesh Bhupathi's dream of an eighth Grand Slam title lay in tatters as he and partner Elena Likhovtseva of Russia were defeated in straight sets in the mixed doubles final of the French Open in Paris on Friday.
Bhupathi -- the winner of four men's doubles and three mixed doubles Grand Slam titles -- and Likhovtseva, the second seeded pair, lost 6-3 6-4 to the third seeded team of Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond of the United States.
This is the second title for the Americans after their victory at the 2002 US Open.
The defeat of Bhupathi, who has triumphed here twice in men's doubles with Leander Paes in 1999 and 2001, and with Rika Hiraki in mixed doubles in 1997, brought an end to India's challenge in the French Open.
Earlier, Sania Mirza and Saana Bhambri crashed out of the girls' doubles event after suffering a crushing defeat in the semi-finals.
