Striker El-Hadji Diouf scored twice in two minutes as Bolton Wanderers came from behind to win 2-1 away to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Bolton climbed to third in the standings on 17 points from eight games, two points behind leaders Manchester United [Images] and champions Chelsea, who both won away on Saturday.

Newcastle, 15th with seven points, went ahead in the 18th minute with a penalty by striker Shola Ameobi, awarded for handball against defender Abdoulaye Faye.

The Magpies should have gone two up five minutes before the interval but defender Peter Ramage blasted the ball over the bar when he had the goal at his mercy.

Diouf equalised in the 55th minute when he ghosted in behind Titus Bramble to turn Nicolas Anelka's left wing cross into the net past keeper Steve Harper.

Less than two minutes later, Diouf headed the winner from close range after poor defending again let Newcastle down as Bolton striker Kevin Davies headed on a high ball into the box.
