Ranty Martins brace guided defending champion, Dempo to an emphatic 3-1 win over Air India in the ONGC [Get Quote] I-League, played at Nehru stadium, in Fatorda on Sunday.
Dempo who led 1-0 at half time scored through Ranty Martins (38th, 78th) and Climax Lawerence (55th).
Air India reduced the margin through Ravinder Singh in the 60th margin.
Dempo with two win and a loss have 6 points from three matches. While, Air India who suffered their first defeat remained on 8 points from five matches.
Dempo who found initial resistance from Air India dictated terms throughout the match with medio Climax Lawerence and Mascimento Silveira controlled the midfield with Series of raids from the flanks but their striker particularly Mboyo Iyomi fumbled to strike on target.
Keeper Arup Debnath who was replaced in the second after getting injured too came off with fine saves denying Climax Lawerence and Mboyo Iyomi an early goal.
Dempo who kept the rival defense under pressure surge ahead in the 38th minute after Dempo earned a penalty when keeper Arup Debnath brought down Ranty Martins inside the box when he was about to score. The resultant penalty Ranty made Ioymi take to beat keeper to his left to have Dempo leading 1-0 at half time.
Dempo continued to dominate after the change of ends with man of the match Climax Lawerence orchestrating good moves from the middle increased the lead in the 55th minute when he headed home a well directed lob from Anthony Pereira from the right.
