Adrian Mutu netted twice to push Fiorentina up to fifth in Serie A with a 3-1 win at Bologna on Monday.
The Romania striker, returning from three weeks out with an elbow injury, opened the scoring in style on six minutes when he volleyed in Riccardo Montolivo's long punt up field having let the ball drop over his head.
His second came on 16 minutes when he sprang the offside trap and smashed the ball home. The former Chelsea forward later missed a good chance to seal his hat-trick.
Bologna, four points above the drop zone, pulled one back through Nicola Mingazzini and former Fiorentina forward Pablo Osvaldo could have equalised before Alberto Gilardino secured the win for the visitors in injury time.
The game was due to be played on Sunday but was postponed a day because of heavy snow. Fans were angered by the new Monday mid-afternoon kickoff time which meant many were at work and could not attend.
