Beijing had the honour of hosting the 11th edition of the Games. This was the first time that the People's Republic of China hosted the event. 37 countries took part in 27 disciplines between September-October 1990. The Games' mascot was a great panda called "Panpan". The OCA lost its president, Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. This was the most shocking news surrounding Games. The OCA headquarters were temporarily moved to the United Kingdom. After the liberation of Kuwait in 1991 the OCA HQ was re-established. The Games were one of the best staged thus far.
Canoeing, kabaddi, sepak takraw and wushu were introduced while taekwondo, equestrian and boxing were excluded.
Iraq were suspended following its invasion of Kuwait.
