India claim bronze medal
in equestrian
India won their first medal in equestrian at the 14th Asian Games when Indrajit Lamba,
Bhagirath Singh, Rajesh Pattu and Deep Ahlawat took the bronze
in the team event on Friday.
The Indian riders, who were in fourth position after
the completion of the cross-country section yesterday, put up
a superb display in the jumping competition to take the podium,
conceding a total of 224.08 points.
India had earlier ended day one in fifth place after the
dressage round on Wednesday.
The gold medal went to the Japanese team of Daisuke Katu,
Sachiko Kodera, Masaru Fuse and Shegeyuki Hosono who won with
a total of 176.13 points while the South Korean team of Sang
Yon Cheon, Kyun Sub Kim, Hyung Chil Kim and Hong Chul Kim took
the silver medal giving away 189.87 points.
In the individual competition, the Indians could not make
much of an impact, with Indrajit Lamba finishing in 10th place.
Bhagirath Singh and Rajesh Pattu ended in 13th and 14th
positions respectively.
The gold in the event went to Thailand's Pongsiree
Bunluewong followed by South Korean Sang Yong Cheon and
Japan's Daisuke Kato who won the silver and bronze medals
respectively.
