Indian spikers score first victory
Indian spikers beat Macau
India registered their first victory in three matches when they defeated lowly Macau in
straight sets in the volleyball tournament at the 14th Asian Games.
However, despite the victory, the Indian spikers are out
of the race for a place in the semi-finals, as Iran and Korea,
both of whom defeated India in earlier matches, are almost
assured of a berth in the last four stage.
On Friday against Macau, India put up a spirited display to emerge
victorious 25-13, 25-16, 25-21.
India will play their last league match against Qatar on
October 8.
Though India, who played superbly before going down 2-3
to Iran yesterday, failed to recreate the performance today,
they managed to put pressure on the opponents throughout the
tie.
India won the first two sets easily with Amir Singh leading the attack with consistent booming shots. He was well-supported by Subba Rao, Jobi and Tom Joseph. But in the final set, the Indians were not successful with their blocks, which allowed their opponents to stretch the set.
