India's challenge in archery ends
India's challenge in the Asian Games archery competition came to an end with the men's team bowing out in the quarter-finals of the Olympic round by a narrow three-point
margin, at the Ganseo Archery field in Busan on Thursday.
The men's team, comprising the experienced Limba Ram, Ved
Kumar, Satyadev Prasad and Kailash, managed to make it to the
last eight stage before losing to the strong Kazakhstan team
239-242.
The Indians completed their engagements without winning a
single medal as the archers from South Korea, China and
Kazakhstan did the bulk of medal shopping.
Earlier, India defeated Sri Lanka in the pre-quarter
finals by a comfortable 235-199 margin but they could
not display the same accuracy and concentration in the
quarters.
Failing to win any medal in the individual events, the
Indians seemed far more determined to end the five-day
championships on a victorious note but their efforts did not
pay dividends.
The men's team title was claimed by the South Korean team
of Kyung Ho Kim, Seoung Hoon Han, Sek Keoan Kim and Dong Hyun
Lim, who defeated the Chinese Taipei team comprising Minghuang
Liu, Chiennan Liao, Szuyuan Chen and Cheng-Pang Wang 245-238.
South Korea also bagged the women's team gold medal, defeating the Chinese Taipei 246-226. India did not field a team in the women's team event.
