NSE-50 Index

Nifty dips by 5.8 points

Pivotals declined moderately on the last day of trading cycle on the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the trend, the NSE-50 (Nifty) index opened at 1107.25, touched the day's high of 1029.65, fell sharply to to touch the day's low of 1008.80, and later closed at 1011.45 points, losing 5.80 points over the previous close of 1017.25 points.

Similarly, the Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) index declined by 6.55 points to 895.55 as against the previous close of 902.10 points, while the Midcap closed lower by 6.25 points to 1141.55 points over the previous close of 1147.80 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 13.96 billion.

Tobacco giant ITC topped the list by registering highest turnover of Rs 5.5 billion, followed by State Bank Rs 1.9 million, Tata Tea Rs 1.4 billion , Reliance Rs 870.6 million and Castrol Rs 620.1 million.

Hectic activity was witnessed at the other counters like TELCO Rs 548.4 million, ACC Rs 418.2 million, MTNL Rs 328.2 million, Hind Lever Rs 271.1 million, TISCO Rs 248.3 million, Corp Bank Rs 186.5 million, BHEL Rs 180 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 163.9 million, L and T Rs 143.2 million, ICICI Rs 76.6 million, BPL Rs 7.14 million, Hero Honda Rs 58.9 million, Colgate Rs 58.8 million, BSES Rs 56.6 million, LML Rs 48.3 million, IPCL Rs 36.4 million, Rel Petro Rs 34.8 million, Dr Reddy Rs 30.4 million, Infosys Tech Rs 29.7 million, Rel Cap Rs 27.9 million.

Among the gainers, BHEL increased by 1.63 per cent to Rs 308.05, MTNL up by 1.59 per cent to Rs 229.95, Grasim 1.30 per cent to Rs 334.20, EIH firmed up by 0.81 per cent to Rs 393.05 and Orient up by 0.75 per cent to Rs 60.25.

Among the losers, BPCL drifted lower by 3.24 per cent to Rs 387.05, HDFC dropped by 2.93 per cent to Rs 2944.55, Thermax down by 2.72 per cent to Rs 170.10, GE Shipping down by 2.63 per cent to Rs 44.45 while ACC declined by 2.32 per cent to 1304.05.
