Squaring keeps market quiet; RIL steady; Sensex down 23 points, 2941.39Equities declined further marginally in a lacklusture trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange on the last day of the weekly settlement today. In the absence of any major market moving factor, dealers were seen only squaring up their positions due to end of settlement, leading BSE brokers said. The Reliance scrip held steady today despite the CBI raids on the company's premises in Bombay and Delhi yesterday. The foreign institutional investors and domestic institutional investors preferred to stay away from active participation. Some activity was witnessed at the select counters like ITC, Reliance, Telco and Tisco, dealers said. Reflecting the trend, the BSE Sensex opened at 2966.14 points, touched the day's high of 2974.70 points, fell to the day's low of 2932.85 before closing at 2941.39 points, showing a net loss of 23.48 points from the previous close of 2964.87 points. The broad-based BSE-100 index declined by 11.60 points to 1312.11 points as against the previous close of 1323.71 points. The BSE-200 and Dollex indices have also eased by 2.97 and 0.97 points to 304.08 and 119.40 as against the previous close of 307.05 and 120.37 points respectively Total turnover on the BSE's on-line trading system crossed Rs 10 billion mark and stood at Rs 11.54 billion. Tobacco giant ITC topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 1.61 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 1.09 billion, SBI Rs 690.5 million, Satyam Computers Rs 558.5 million and Telco Rs 469.1 million. Other actively traded scrips were Zee Telefilms (Rs 458.2 million), Tata Tea (Rs 377.9 million), Pentafour Software (Rs 353.6 million), Tisco (Rs 289.5 million), Castrol India (Rs 225 million), MTNL (Rs 170.9 million), ACC (Rs 162.1 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 157.5 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 133.1 million) and L&T (Rs 128 million).
