Sentiment improves, Nifty crawls up 7 points to 1031.05
The market sentiment improved marginally with prices of pivotals moving in a narrow range at the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the mixed trend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1027.35 points, touched the day's high of 1043.40 points, fell to the day's low of 1027.00 points before closing at 1031.05 points, showing a net gain of 6.85 points from the previous close of 1024.20 points. The CNX Nifty Junior rose by 11.50 points to 1962.70 points from the previous close of 1951.20 points. S&P CNX Defty ended higher by 4.75 points to 837.00 points from the previous close of 832.25 points. The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap-200 closed higher by 5.66 and 1.42 points to 722.41 and 659.46 points as against the previous close of 716.75 and 658.04 points respectively. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 24.27 billion which came from a trading of 69.72 million shares in 279,843 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 4.93 million. Today, 591 securities advanced, 399 declined and 75 remained unchanged while 84 securities hit their price-bands. Pentafour Software topped the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 5.05 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 3.51 billion, ITC Rs 2.67 billion, Silverline Rs 1.31 billion and Rolta Rs 1.11 billion.
