Pivotals crash; Nifty down 27 points to 993.40
Pivotals crashed heavily at the National Stock Exchange due to heavy selling pressure from bull operators coupled with lack of buying support from institutional investors today. Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1021.35 points, touched the day's high of 1022.15 points, fell to the day's low of 989.75 points before closing at 993.40 points, showing a net loss of 26.95 points from the previous close of 1020.35 points. The CNX Nifty Junior fell by 63.05 points to 1870.20 points as against the previous close of 1933.25 points. S&P CNX Defty eased by 22.15 points to 806.60 points from the previous close of 828.75 points. The S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap 200 ended lower by 20.43 and 20.20 points to 694.27 and 630.36 points from the previous close of 714.70 and 650.56 points respectively. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 18.43 billion came from a trading of 51.52 million shares in 246,885 trades. The debentures traded value stood at Rs 3.79 million. Today, 165 securities advanced, 815 declined, 71 remainws unchanged while. 74 securities hit the price bands. Pentafour Software stood first in the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 3.24 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 3.17 billion, ITC Rs 1.57 billion and ACC Rs 1.04 billion. Other actively traded counters were Silverline, Infosys Technologies, HCL HP, Digital Equipment, SBI, Rolta, Ranbaxy and Zee Telefilms. The gainers were Cipla at Rs 1580 (1503.75), ACC Rs 1463 (1416.95), Hero Honda Rs 806.50 (800), ICICI Rs 41.50 (Rs 41.45). The losers were BHEL Rs 171.15 (Rs 186), Infosy Technologies Rs 2612 (Rs 2626.05), ABB Rs 349.10 (Rs 374), Grasim Rs 132 (Rs 141.35) and NIIT Rs 1,685.50 (Rs 1800). UNI
