Pivotals recover after early loss; Nifty up five points to 998.20
Opening on a weak note, pivotals gained moderately towards the fag end of trading at the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 984.55 points, touched the day's high of 999.65 points, the low of 972.70 points before closing at 998.20 points, showing a net gain of 4.80 points as against the previous close of 993.40 points. CNX Nifty Junior rose by 4.05 points to 1874.25 points from the previous close of 1870.20 points. S&P CNX Defty closed higher by 3.65 points to 810.25 points from the previous close of 806.60 points. S&P CNX-500 and Midcap-200 also rose marginally by 0.05 and 1.51 points to 694.32 and 631.87 points as against the previous close of 684.27 and 630.36 points respectively. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 17.57 billion, came from a trading of 50.84 million shares in 234,993 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.29 million. Today, 370 securities advanced, 535 declined, 98 remaining unchanged while 61 securities hit their price bands. Pentafour Software topped the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 4.06 billion, Satyam Computers Rs 3.53 billion, ITC Rs 1.02 billion and Silverline Rs 964.9 billion. Other actively traded counters were HCL-HP (Rs 549.8 million), Rolta (Rs 535.7 million), Infosys Technologies (Rs 534 million), ACC (Rs 488 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 445.9 million), SBI New (Rs 412.7 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 322.2 million), Reliance (Rs 291.6 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 264.8 million), Square D Software (Rs 247.5 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 228 million), NIIT (Rs 227.1 million), Tata Tea (Rs 215.9 million), Global Telesystems (Rs 195.3 million), BPL (Rs 168.1 million), Castrol (Rs 143.3 million), Glaxo (Rs 143.1 million), L&T (Rs 136.2 million), BHEL (Rs 131.7 million) and Software Solutions International (Rs 108.2 million). The gainers were Cochin Refineries Rs 123 (117), Infosys Technologies Rs 2,716.50 (Rs 2612), NIIT Rs 1,748 (1,685), BHEL Rs 176 (171.15), IFCI Rs 12 (11.70). The losers were SBI Rs 166.40 (Rs 170.40), Bajaj Auto Rs 558 (Rs 570.70), Cipla Rs 1,545 (1,580), Arvind Mill Rs 28.40 (Rs 29) and Ranbaxy Rs 568 (580). UNI
