Pivotals decline due to speculative buying; Nifty down four points to 994.25
Pivotals declined moderately at the National Stock Exchange marginally on speculative selling pressure from local operators coupled with the lack of buying support from institutional investors on the last day of current settlement today. Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 991.05 points, touched the day's high of 1006.15 points, fell to the day's low of 989.90 points before closing at 994.25 points, showing a net loss of 3.95 points from the previous close of 998.20 points. The CNX Nifty Junior fell sharply by 26.30 points to 1847.95 points as against the previous close of 1874.25 points. S&P CNX Defty eased by 4.45 points to 805.80 points from the previous close of 810.25 points. S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap-200 declined by 5.31 and 7.48 points to 689.01 and 624.39 points from the previous close of 694.32 and 631.87 points respectively. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 19.06 billion which came from a trading of 60.90 million shares in 256,173 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 5.88 million. Today, 346 scrips advanced, 672 declined, 86 remained unchanged while 36 securities hit their price bands today. Satyam Computers topped the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 4.82 billion, followed by Pentafour Software Rs 3.37 billione, Silverline Rs 1.26 billion. Others actively traded counters were ITC (Rs 962.5 million), Rolta (Rs 646.3 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 487.6 million), Relaince (Rs 457.7 million), Infosys Technologies (Rs 455.9 million), HCL-HP (Rs 452.7 million), Digital Equipment (Rs 433.8 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 333.2 million), SBI (Rs 332.9 million), ACC (Rs 315.5 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 247.2 million), L&T (Rs 216.5 million), Castrol (Rs 212.5 million), Square D Software (Rs 202.8 million), NIIT (Rs 201.1 million), MTNL (Rs 187.1 million), Global Telesystems (Rs 184.1 million), BHEL (Rs 165.5 million), BPL (Rs 151.3 million) and Thomas Cook (Rs 139.4 million). The top gainers were Reliance Capital Rs 32.90 (Rs 30.95), Bajaj Auto Rs 586 (Rs 558), Gujarat Ambuja Cement Rs 291 (Rs 280), Hero Honda Rs 830 (Rs 810). The losers were Smithkline Rs 610 (Rs 650), India Rayon Rs 71.95 (Rs 75.05), Tata Chemicals Rs 61 (Rs 63.40), ABB Rs 330.25 (Rs 343) and Cipla Rs 1,492 (Rs 1,545). UNI
