Equities crash, Nifty down 26 points to 968.60; market open on Saturday
Equities crashed heavily at the National Stock Exchange on huge unloading by bull operators today in the wake of fluid political situation at the Centre. Reflecting the bearish trend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened at 968.40 points, touched the day's high of 980.65 points, fell to the day's low of 964.35 points before closing at 968.60 points, showing a net loss of 25.65 points from the previous close of 994.25 points. The S&P CNX Nifty Junior nosedived by 71.20 points to 1776.75 points from the previous close of 1847.95 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 21.55 points to 784.25 points from the previous close of 805.80 points. The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap-200 closed lower by 21.92 and 21.39 points to 667.09 and 603.00 points as against the previous close of 689.01 and 624.39 points respectively. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 16.23 billion came from a trading of 43.03 million shares in 206,565 trades. Debentures were valued at Rs 3.55 million. Today, 286 securities advanced, 604 declined, 64 remained unchanged and 63 securities hit their price bands. Pentafour Software stood first in the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 5.39 billion, followed by Satyam Computer Rs 3.22 billion, ITC Rs 841.2 million, Ranbaxy Rs 621.1 million, Silverline Rs 510.6 million.
