Karnataka to go ahead with four pending power projects

The Karnataka government will soon add 1,000 mega-watts of power to its grid following the new government's resolve to go ahead with four pending projects in the joint sector in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken after a two-hour meeting between Chief Minister S M Krishna and outgoing Karnataka Power Corporation Limited Managing Director K Jairaj in Bangalore on Friday.

Official sources said the government in principle had decided to go ahead with these projects to overcome the acute power supply shortage in the state.

The projects are : the 200 mw Bidadi project near Bangalore, the 500 mw Vijayanagar project in Bellary district, the 90 mw Sarpadi project and the seventh unit of the KPCL's Raichur thermal power plant.

During the meeting, Krishna reviewed the functioning of the KPCL and discussed the power situation in the state.
