Maruti to take over management of children's parkIndia's largest car-maker Maruti Udyog Limited, or MUL, is now driving on the road to social work. The company is currently in talks with the Delhi government to take over management of the famous children's park in the heart of New Delhi at India Gate, company sources said. "We are planning to take over management of the children's park. We have already initiated talks with the Delhi government in this regard. MUL intends to invest money in upgrading facilities at the park. With this, we are doing our part at being a good corporate citizen,'' the sources added. Meanwhile, the company has already set up a driver training centre -- Institute Of Driving Training and Research, or IDTR - on the outskirts of the city, which would in due course become the Delhi government authorised certification authority for seeking driver licenses. The centre has been set under a joint initiative with the Delhi government. IDTR director R K Parimoo said it has been set up by the 'Foundation to Assist in Inculcating Traffic Habits', or FAITH, a society formed by the department of transport, Delhi and MUL. FAITH was founded with the aim of becoming a resource support organisation for the department of transport on matters pertaining to road safety and traffic education. IDTR is the society's first initiative and is being managed and run by MUL. The company has already initiated talks with the Delhi government for converting IDTR into an authority for assessing road-worthiness of vehicles, for conducting refresher courses and issuing certificates for heavy commercial vehicle driver license renewal. Parimoo said the institute has been set up to improve the traffic situation by providing driving training to people. Set up with an investment of close to Rs 30 million, the institute aims to train up to 30,000 people during the first year of its operations. ''We aim to inculcate safety consciousness along with safe driving habits and thus prevent accidents, saving thousands of families from life long grief.'' UNI
