Volvo sets up first service facility near BombayAs a start-up exercise, Volvo India Private Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of AB Volvo of Sweden, has set up its first service and parts facility in Bhiwandi, near Bombay. In keeping with Volvo's strategy worldwide, Volvo India Private Limited is in the process of creating all the necessary infrastructure to support its trucks well in advance of its time schedule of bringing them on to the Indian roads. The Volvo modular dealership is the first step in the direction of setting up a service and maintenance infrastructure in India. It is completely modular in nature, based on container structures with facilities for workshop, lubrication system support, parts warehouse, and offices that could also be used for training. The dealership will provide total support to all the Volvo trucks that are scheduled to ply in this area. This facility has been imported from Sweden with necessary sophisticated systems, and can be installed in a record period of three weeks. Volvo's focus in India is to provide viable and economic transport solutions to the economy. Volvo is setting up a manufacturing facility for heavy commercial vehicles in Hoskote, near Bangalore. Volvo has made an initial investment of Rs 3 billion. Besides this, Volvo is already marketing its range of diesel engines and plans to introduce its construction equipment and mass transport solutions with buses. Worldwide, Volvo is a US $28-billion global organisation. It employs 70,000 people and manufactures cars, buses, trucks, marine and industrial engines, construction equipment, and aircraft engines.
